OLDER MEN’S HEALTH PROJECT

The Third Age Project has been commissioned by the Local Area Agreement older people’s panel to carry out a one-year 06 07 pilot project in regard to older men of 50 years plus living in the borough.

The aims of the project are to:

·        Encouraging older men to improve their health and general well-being including adopting a more healthy active lifestyle

·        Raising greater health awareness and self help approaches among older men

·        Seeking to improve the take up of community and preventive services by older men

·        Identifying and disseminating good practice to improve services, provided to meet older men’s health needs.

·        Establish a range of collaborative partnerships between the community & voluntary, statutory and non statutory sectors.

If you are a Camden resident or community organisation and interested in knowing more about this project there are several ways in finding out more:

·        Taking part at our bi monthly project steering group sessions the next are from 12.30 pm – 2.00 pm on Thursdays 1st February and 22nd March 2007 at the H Pod (adjacent to the Regents Park Practice, Cumberland Market, Regents Park Estate, NW1 3RH).

·        Participating in our competitive Badminton sessions (the Camden Cup) every Tuesday 1.00 – 2.00 pm at the Talacre Community Sports Centre, Dalby Street, (off Prince of Wales Road) NW5, and Wednesday morning 12.00 – 1.00 pm at the Samuel Lithgow Centre, 69 – 75 Stanhope Street, NW1 3LD. There is also a Men’s Gym session from 11.00 –12.00 pm on Wednesdays at the same venue.

·        If you want to lose weight signing up for our Men’s Shape-Up programme with Leo that will take place from 11.30 am – 12.30 pm at the H Pod (see address above). There is also a Men’s Walking Group that starts from 10.00 am every Thursday morning (Phone Igor on 020 8749 4638)

·        Joining a darts team and taking part in winning the Euston Cup with sessions from 1.00 pm – 3.00 pm alternately at the Hillwood Resource Centre, 1 Polygon Street, NW1 (Phone: 020 7387 7628) and at the Crypt Centre, Munster Square, NW1 (Phone: 020 7383 4922).

·        Coming along to one of our regular Men’s Health Sessions taking place at different community venues over the next few weeks. Ring us for latest details. We are also looking for older men that are interested in being a volunteer or acting as a peer mentor for this project (training provided!)
